PC Speaker System

Every so often I start a thread in here about general items asking for advice on what to go for. I feel it's been sufficent time since my last hunt for information so hopefully you lot can come up with the goods yet again.

Any suggestions on a reasonable speaker system for use with a PC? I'm currently using the two speakers that came with my Dell Dimension -4300 from the year 2001BC, but have served and continue to serve me well, but there just isn't enough ooomph.

I've had it in the back of my head for a while but it was resparked today with another of those Amazon sale e-mails and deals like - Creative Inspire T6100 5.1 for £40.

I'm no musician, there perhaps I'm not quite as fastidious as some when it comes to sound, but I'd like decent quality and bass but not blowing the windows out, for sensible price, ie <£100. Uses will be mostly listening to music and DVDs.

Thanks

If it is just for PC, then any 5.1 or better system would do you.

If you have a possibility of integrating with home cinema etc. then you should search for a dedicated head unit and digital I/O.

I had a really excellent Cambridge Soundworks system that took a digital SPDIF output from the PC sound card, but unfortunately the head unit succumbed to fatigue.

I now have a Creative T5400 powered subwoofer acting as the head unit, but just with the standard 3-cable analogue output from the PC sound card.

I retained the 5 Soundworks satellites, as they were already in place.

So now I have a used passive subwoofer and 5 unused satellites.
