Noise Issue

I just bought a reconditioned laptop. It is a Gateway MX3230. When I am using it I am getting this annoying "tick-tock" noise. When I am using my headphones, the "tick-tock" noise does not come through the headphones, but it is still there. Anyone have any idea what might be causing the noise. I'm using XP home.

Hard disk - I had the same problem with my laptop - never got it sorted but it was annoying - people could hear it when I was on Skype

Could also be caused by a poorly shielded PSU.
