HP PSC1215 / hpoevm08.exe

Reading the XP EVENTS VIEWER there are entries every day concerning a problem with an application failure for hpoevm08.exe.

I am led to believe its a known problem with HP but I cannot find anywhere on the net that leads me to a solution.

The printer I have is a HP PSC1215.

Any ideas?

I have no direct experience of this problem but doing a search produces the following titbits of 'info'. Whether they are genuine solutions I do not know. As always Caveat Emptor and please do some more research before applying them.

Background HP Image Editor task installed by the drivers for the HP OfficeJet K60 & G85 (hpoevm07) and HP PSC 2100 & 2200 (hpoevm08) series of multifunction printers.
Recommendation :
This task is bad press for HP. Almost all Windows 2000/XP users who install an HP PSC 2100 or 2200 series printer immediately complain of their PCs having become extremely slow and of "HPOEVM07.exe is not responding" or "HPOEVM08.exe is not responding" errors on shutdown. HP have issued a fix for it for HPOEVM08 which, strangely enough, is actually on the CD that your printer comes with, but it does not get installed automatically (that’s plain silly!). To install the fix drill down to the Util\CCC\ImageEditor folder on the software CD and copy the file HPQVWR08.EXE from that CD folder to the following folder on your C: drive : "C: \ Program Files \ Hewlett-Packard \ Digital Imaging \ Bin". Then reboot.

eticket thanks for that but even though its the same problem the solutions apply to a different printer and (probably) as such the path to the file on the install CD does not exist.

I realised that you were asking about a different printer to the one in the possible solution. (If the 'missing' HPQVWR08.EXEfile isn't on the installation CD that would possibly be a clue that the 'hints' that I posted don't apply to you.)

The HP links were found simply by typing the HPQVWR08.EXE file name into their technical support web site without specifying a printer model.

I do not know if HP release this file for different printers with different contents to the file or if it is intended to be the same contents for every printer that needs the file.

In an earlier problem (see Wierd Printer Problem thread). The problem related to an HP5550 that printed out blank pages. I had the same blank page problem when I put an HP6122 printer on a XP (SP2) machine the week before. I realise that the solution, a Windows setting, is unrelated to your 'driver' problem but I wonder if HP are using the same utility files (with the same installation problems) for different printers of the same generation? Much better brains than the poor one I have would be needed to answer that.

Good luck.
