XP Pro Programs History Missing

I’ve just had to rebuild my laptop following a mechanical HD failure (and found out the hard way my back up procedures were sadly lacking!!).

Lots of remaining quirks but an irritant is that I can’t seem to get any Program history from the Start menu. OS is XP Pro.

Everytime I go START – PROGRAMS I see the full list with no sub list of recent used programs.

Where do I envoke this?

Thanks

Re-read your post and realised you are refering to Program History not Document History.

This is for WinXP. I presume XP Pro is the same?

Program History
In WinXP you have to:
Right-Click start menu -> Properties
¬the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Box Appears
Click the Start-Menu Tab
Click the Start Menu Radio Button
Click Customise Button (Spelt with a z )
¬the Customise Start Menu Box Appears
Click the Advanced Tab
There should be a number-scroll box in the middle labelled "Number of programs on start menu"
Make sure that box has a number and OK it.

Should start listing them then.

Document History
In WinXP you have to:
Right-Click start menu -> Properties
¬the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Box Appears
Click the Start-Menu Tab
Click the Start Menu Radio Button
Click Customise Button (Spelt with a z )
¬the Customise Start Menu Box Appears
Click the Advanced Tab
There should be a check-box at the bottom labelled "List my most recently opened documents"
Make sure that box is ticked and OK that.

Should start listing them then.

That's all set up OK (8 set) but I still get no recent Programs. Weird.

The only other thing I can think of checking is whether you have any TweakUI type programs installed that override this?
Otherwise I don't think I can help...

Thanks anyway - Very much a raw install. Only OS, Office and anti-virus/spam re-installed so far so suspect problem is within XP somewhere. Also although I hadn't realised it, Docs History not working either.

If you do not have it, install 'TweakUI' as 11K says, and look at 'Taskbar and Start Menu'/'Start Menu'. If nothing is ticked there, nothing will show.

For WIndows 2000, right click on an empty portion of the task bar and select properties. Then tick "use personalised menus"

See if you can find the equivalent on XP.

Thanks - They are now working on normal Start Menu but for some reason not on Classic. I'll leave well alone for the time being!
