Nero lets you overburn to an appropriate medium.
This approach dates back to about 2001, when DVDs were relatively expensive, and plenty of avis were > 700MB. You'd buy '99 minute' discs (theoretical capacity 870MB) and stretch things out.
I found it to be flaky, as you are doing something outside the normal boundaries of the medium's documented capacity. Ultimately, the discs were too expensive to warrant the number of coasters you'd produce.

Why would you bother. Blank DVD's are now about the same price as blank CD's and hold about 6x as much. wouldn't be worth the effort or the problems it may cause.
