Can anybody help?
Have been using Nero for a while with no problems. However, after a system crash, and having to reload software, it now does not appear to recognise the CDRom drive, and only gives an option to copy to an image file.
Have tried to make it automatically detect the drive, but this doesn't appear to work.
Does anybody have the solution?

Depends if your software was bundled with your writer.
Usually a bundled program only recognises the drive it came with whereas a registered package recognises all drives.
Its possible that your reg code has become corrupted and you may need to re-register for it to recognise your drive again.

Or you could drop it and try this. I had problems with Nero recognising my dvd writer on my Toshiba laptop and used Deepburner which has a free to download version. This recognised the drive no probs. It doesn't look as flash as Nero but I've found it easy to use and does the basics fine.

I've also had a problem with Nero since I started using XP
Since installing XP I find that all my backups on CD come up as read-only files when I try to transfer them back to my machine, which is a bit of a pain. This also happens with CDs burned under W2000 that, as far as I can remember, worked fine when I read them using W2000.
