Question pictures bookmark IE

I use Microsoft Internet Exlporer 6. If i save a new bookmark in favorites than a nice little picture appears in front of the bookmark. But after a restart of the pc those pictures are gone and just the blue E of IE appears. How do i keep those pictures?

This is a function of the Website (designer) and they're called Favicons.

Most modern browsers (including Internet Explorer, despite the fact that it's a rather poor and insecure browser) recognise and use them in Favourites.

"Internet Explorer 5+ has the facility to let you include an icon to represent your site that is retrieved every time visitors bookmark your site. When the user looks at their Favourites they will see your icon. If they go to that bookmarked page they will also see your icon at the left end of the Address window in the toolbar. It also appears in Windows Explorer thumbnails.

If you want the icon to appear you must upload a file named favicon.ico into the Root directory (you might want to insert the ico file into individual folders and sub-webs just to make sure) or (if you do NOT have access to the server - i.e. you are with a free host) EVERY directory and subdirectory or every location that might be book marked by your visitors. - It is best to do this anyway as other browsers other an internet explorer would probably use this as the standard. Besides which this means you can use different ico files for different sections of your site, but if you just want to use a universal ico call it favicon.ico."

FavOrg - http://wittswallpapers.com/Oldies/favorg.zip - will do it for you

"FavOrg is about favicons. Favicons appeared with Internet Explorer. Whenever you connect to a Web site that proposes a favicon, Internet Explorer will download that icon to your system and will use it for any shortcut or menu item created for this web link. This is a useful feature because this will make finding a particular site in your Favorites folder easier, especially if you have many favorites. So, why do we need a utility to manage these favicons? Because Internet Explorer doesn’t do its job very well. The downloaded icon file is stored as a temporary file. Which means that after a while, the favicon will disappear and your shortcut will be associated again with the standard Internet Explorer icon. This often happens after cleaning up your Temporary Internet Files folder. FavOrg will fix this problem and ensure that your favicons are made sticky. That is, once downloaded, the icon will be assigned to the shortcut permanently. FavOrg stores the favicons in a user-defined folder. PLATFORMS: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, WinXp"
