THIS may be of help (or just a long shot). ...Quite a long thread and it is not until near the end that the guy solved the problem by removing 'CDA' from the registry software entry. ...Looking at his HijackThis log it would seem to revolve around a game on his PC produced by 'Wild Tangent'

BST - thanks for that. I wonder which cleaner was used - I have CCleaner and that doesn't find anything.

oldbeefer.....

CCleaner is a whole different ball game; he's talking registry cleaners.

Download THIS

First page up, above, will show all programs registered to the registry (different and far more comprehensive to the standard add/remove list. Don't ask!); you may find some related reference to 'CDA' there, with the facility - should you choose - to remove it (there is a backup). Right-clicking an entry gives further 'Advanced Info.'

That said, don't forget, it may be there for a reason and Avast is throwing up a false positive.

NB: You can also clean the whole registry with this program (although that's another subject). I only use it for the first page view of programs; preferrring an alternative for the rest.

Thanks BST. Downloaded the reg cleaner. There were a number of Wild Tangent entries which I have now removed. Googled Wild Tangent - seems it's an on-line gaming programme and is included in AOLs Instant Messenger programme which I downloaded a fortnight ago. How I dislike AOL!

oldbeefer.....

Good news!

Be careful; it's easy to get paranoid with that program, thinking there are things on your machine that shouldn't be (as may be the case) but invariably turn out to be third party programs attached - legitimately - to more familiar names. I seem to recall Nero is a case in point.
