History Killer

Sorry if this has been asked before. Can anyone recommend a good, ideally free Internet history killer. Thanks

I use a program called IEPrivacy Keeper - downloaded from here Snapfiles. Its freeware and I've tried a few progs from here and they seem to be fine.

It can be added to 'tools' in your ie explorer toolbar and be set to clean whatever you want at whatever intervals - eg on shutdown, on startup or on closing the last ie exploer window etc. You can set it to preserve certain cookies as you direct eg pprune log in and ditch the rest. I have it set to clean at ie explorer close and it can take a bit of time if you've been surfing for a while.

Word of warning re Ccleaner, (which works very well) if you just follow the prompts through to deletion, you may find that the default settings have taken out something you'd rather have kept.

Thanks for suggestions. As the PC is in a crew lounge, not too worried about deleting everything, every time. (I hope)

One of the nice features of Firefox is the ability to clean everything very easily. Just select Tools > Clear Private Data (or press Ctrl-Shift-Del) and a simple box opens where you can clear everything. Why IE doesn't have this ability, I don't know - quite often the options are disabled on a shared computer

ZFT.....

The implied scenario seems to have changed between your first and second post. ...I was assuming you were talking about your own computer, but now more likely concerns about your own 'history' in passing on a multi-use machine owned by someone else. ...In the case of the latter, you are unlikely to have the Administrative permission/ability to put something like CCleaner onto the hard drive.

Further to Richard's previous point, why not get yourself a USB Flash Drive and use portable applications on it, like Firefox browser, Thunderbird mail client (and portable versions of just about every type of computer program you can think of). All the 'action', happens within the Flash Drive, with nothing left on the PC it's plugged into. This is highlighted as a key feature on the website.

Portable Firefox.

List of other applications here.

I do have admin rights (The original request came from a customer concerned about his privacy). The PC is a multi user machine though. Have installed CCleaner and left details/instructions for all to see.
Thanks again.
