BitTorrent(s)

Having never used one before I always thought the idea of bit torrent and the such was to have huge download speeds.

I'm downloading the latest version of Project Reality for BF2 (a popular online game) and getting a massive 8kb/s.

Downloading the same file from a "normal" server its around 180kb/s

Is it simply because there are few people out there with the file?

Hmm PC's I knew there was a reason I used mac.

Cool

Torrents I believe rely on seeders and leechers! if there aren't many then the d/l speed is not going to be high.

I would suggest there won't be many for a bf2 mod.

There was something about d/ling it on the bf2 forum

See you on the battlefield soldier!

Cheers, in the end I got it from file front at 280kb/s was interesting trying out BT but I guess its best for those sharing music and films. Which I should stress I dont do, no sir, never......

Haven't been playing much recently as ironically I'm a crap online pilot (actually there is no irony, many would say I'm a crap real life pilot as well) and every round just seems dominated by jets in normal BF2

PRMM was very good last night, in many ways its how they should have done it from the start. Give it a go.

I've had similar issues with BitTorrent. Of course, on a 2mb broadband connection, you're never going to get more than (approximately) 200Kb/s download speed - the real purpose of BitTorrent is to avoid the need for huge central servers, rather than to improve your download speed. An average seeder will also be on broadband and therefore can only upload to you at their maximum upload speed, probably around 20Kb/s. Therefore, you need to connect to at least 10 seeders, probably more, to max out your download bandwidth.

I just set things going and let it get on with it for a few hours... no rush
