Drive letter of a USB flash/jump/thumb drive
I have two of these and I had then plugged in as G: and H: the other day. I removed them both (safely) and today I reinstalled the one that was H: and it came up as...H:
Does that mean it remembers? Why isn't it called G: this time?

MS work on the basis of a drive snatching the first letter it can. You can read the drive ok, because flash drives normally carry data and not programs. There is rarely anything on there that needs a path.
Iif you want to allocate a letter, have a stroll to the control panel - Admin tools and you can manage things from there.

Thanks everyone that really is a big help (though it still doesn't explain the original anomoly, you know what I don't care)
I'm developing a little .net application and I carry it between hoime and work on a flash drive (1Gb for $29.99 ) and this'll make things a lot easier.
