Email Account Problem
After several months of normal operation now every time I log on to my computer and before I can access my emails (using Outlook Express/Win XP), it is necessary for me to go into Tools, Accounts and Properties and correct the incoming server details which have changed from what they should be to a set of numbers. I have tried removing the account and adding it again but this has had no effect.
I have contacted my ISP which has been unable to offer me any advice other than that which I have already tried. A friend said it sounded as if spyware could have caused the problem and so I have run several excellent Adware and Spyware programs without resolving matters.
Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone offer me any advice?

If the change is to 127.something its changing to your local host address this can be caused by your incoming email virus scanner, you could try switching that off. and see if it makes any difference

Thank you, Maxell
You were right about the numbers. However, I just tried disabling the virus scan without success. I also tried correcting the incoming server address then shutting down and re-starting the computer with the virus scan still disabled - but again no success. Thanks for trying to help, though. Much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem at the moment, using McAfee. It seems to be in the Spamkiller section.
I've managed to receive emails by changing the 127 etc to the POP3 address, then I might have to reset my password.
The 127 keeps on returning, though, and the Spamkiller does not work with Outlook Express.

I remember a similar problem I had with McAfee Spam Killer doing a similar thing. I stopped using Mailwasher to give this Spamkiller a try when I got McAfee security Centre last year, and the problems came from that. Turned off Spamkiller (McAfee) and gone back to Mailwasher and Outlook Express, no problems at all with that set up. So, bin your email scanner, go and get Mailwasher for free and use that!!! You can't go wrong! Good luck.

It would appear that McAfee is at the root of the problem. I am glad that I am not alone!
I will try the kind suggestions and my thanks to all who have tried to help me.

A couple of years ago I had mega problems with McAfee. In the end, I had to uninstall the package but continued to have problems until I deleted every single last one of the software files. It was a time-costly trial. I went back to Norton and have stuck with them without a single problem.
