Who'd need PCs OR Macs with an interface like this?
A very bright guy called Jeff Han of New York University is busy working on the future of Computer/Human interfaces. He is demoing his work at the 2006 O'Reilly EmergingTechnologies Conference. Here's a short clip (mp4). It blew me away...

Stunning manipulative interface but demo was light on origination/creation of material.
Watch that demo once and you've grasped all the basic gestures you'll need. That's truly intuitive. The acres of expensive screen real estate would nicely be substituted by an online comp I viewed recently for new laptops. Traditional screen above and present keyboard/trackpad replaced by a large touch screen reconfiguring for each type of task or user.

But will it help me do my VAT any quicker? Not really - probably slower. Good for anything in the audio-visual area though - but not many business applications will be improved, as far as I could see.

Interesting stuff, and no doubt closer to our doorstep than we realise. Anybody else reminded of Tom Cruise waving his arms about in whatever the movie was, Artificial Intelligence?... no, something else....
Just couldn't help imagining a big blue bubble coming up on the screen; Microsoft has encountered an error and cannot continue.......would you like to send a report? Or do you want to stop playing silly buggers and go back to MS Office?
