Angry Playing a DVD with Windows Media 10

Can any one shed light on my total confusion over playing a DVD!

I have 2 PC's. One desktop PC one LAPTOP. Windows Media 10 player on both. On my desktop I can play DVD's no problem. On my laptop, a windows media message pops up and says I need a dvd decoder and directs me to a website where a few dvd decoders at listed for about $15 or so.

I'm pretty confused how I can play a DVD on one and not the other?

If any ones got a idea- please put me out of my misery before the laptop

Thank you!

On your desktop, you may have software like nvidia purevideo, PowerDVD or WinDVD which would allow Windows Media Player to decode DVD video (some programs also include their own player software). This is what Windows means by the decoder, which you don't appear to have on the laptop.

Rather than waste good beer money, I suggest you try VLC Media Player. It's free and will play anything you throw at it, including DVDs . You can get it at http://www.videolan.org.
