Ghostsurf

Folks

Can anyone tell me if 'Ghostsurf' will allow VOIP (such as Skype) to be used when an ISP is trying to block it. Example is the crooks in the Dubai 'phone company want to block Skype, which is a life-line for many, and I just wonder if Ghostsurf could beat them.

Thanks.........

From what they say on the www site, it does not look like it. This looks like an anonymous web proxy type service so may only work for port 80 and http / https (Web and Secured Web) traffic. Skype for example is pretty flexible but still needs to send traffic other than http over port 80 see: http://skype.com/help/guides/firewall.html

I think this is going to continue to be a problem for you, form : http://secretdubai.********.com/2005...sheikh-mo.html (Which may be blocked for you )

The Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the UAE has stated that all use of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony in the UAE is illegal. The TRA has instructed Etisalat to block all access to VoIP telephony. "
Some suggest that http://tor.eff.org/ may help. But I expect if it does, it'll be blocked.

TIme to set up a Sat dish on the roof and share the bandwidth with your neighbours.

Looks like you can get a Tor protected www access on a USB memory stick, so you can browse (slowly!) without the censors and without leaving footprints.

If it's blocked then you could try getting a friend do an instant message transfer, having hosted or posted etc.
