PDA or Mobile PDA

Hi Guys

Apologies if this has been asked before but I need to replaces my P910.

I am wondering if I should get a PDA with WiFi and just a normal small phone or go for a Nokia 9500i (9300i is tempting but cant find when it is out in UK!)

The thing is I like having a keyboard on the PDA. I used to have a Psion5 which was great but obvioulsy not colour and no WiFi. I need decent web access and to be able to edit word/excel docs.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

It would have to be sim free as in Channel Islands we have limited choice of operators (Wave & Cable & Wireless Guernsey) so we don't get the great offers you guys get in the UK!

Cheers

Re: PDA or Mobile PDA

I had the similar dilemna just before Christmas where I had used a SE P910i but was unable to get a viable signal from anyone offering the phone, so stuck with the PPDA route. For me, Compact Flash compatibility was a must as I use several for photography, plus performance and flexibility.

I ended up with a Dell X51V Axim and am very pleased, apart from the fact that just after purchase, Dell knocked 20% off the price. Well worth a look in my estimation.

The only rider I have, is that if it is envisaged to use it for GPS (I do) that several other PDAs have built in rcvrs and are cheaper.

Re: PDA or Mobile PDA

I have an IPAQ 6340 along with the HP foldable bluetooth keyboard and have no complaints. The IPAQ has pretty much every conceivable type of connectivity you would need - 3G phone, bluetooth, modem and of course wireless. As it doubles as a phone you have the choice of inserting your mobile sim card or alternatively connecting via bluetooth to your mobile. I also use tomtom navigator with a bluetooth receiver and it works great. It takes secure digital cards so expansion is only limited by your budget! Was pricey when it first came out but would have thought there would be some savings by now as it must have been around for a year?

Re: PDA or Mobile PDA

Like Conan the Librarian, I have just bought a dell axim 51v and I'm really pleased with it. They are still running a special offer I think. It fits nicely into my pocket, it has wifi & bluetooth. I've got msn messenger & skype running on it so when your away communication home is easy.

Its got a CF card slot to I can view my photos off my digital slr.

You will need the extended battery though, however i've just bought one off ebay for around £8 so you can fill your pockets up with those.

It's brilliant

Cheers guys.

I think I am now persuaded that a seperate PDA and phone is the way to go.

That way I get a smaller phone for nights out etc and a PDA to use during work etc.
