Help-Pop-Ups are driving me mad!!!!

I bought the latest Noadware software hoping that would stop it but no luck, sometimes they just pop up and usually when I select another web address to view another page opens which then sometimes opens another and so on.

Help how do I stop it.

Thanks

A lot can depend on what (sort of) sites you are visiting!

What browser are you using?

I found the Google toolbar was great at stopping pop-ups.

Boring, I know, but Firefox will cure most of your popup problems and it's a much better and more secure browser anyway.

Get it at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Agree with Mac, and add in the Adblock extension once it's installed.

(1) Don't visit websites selling porn, stolen music, etc.
(2) Don't download, install and run any viruses or other nasties.
(3) Er, that's it. No popups.

Now I know that if you'r into Skinny viewing your going to get a load of 'potential problems' of varying degrees and I accept that staying away from the temptations of the flesh is thought to be a full proof method of staying safe
(where do I get these phrases? ) ......

but to continue .... one thing I have found that can lead the innocent into trouble are search engines ..... as much a fan as I am of Google, I sometimes find that if I end up accessing an obscure U.S. based link for my desired info you can be led into potential trouble ..... I've frequently asked the most innocent question on google ..... been guided to an equally innocent site in response and on exiting same, suddenly find myself being directed automatically into $$$$$ and gommora

I must confess it does annoy me .....

Re: Help-Pop-Ups are driving me mad!!!!

You can set Google to filter your results so that you don't get pointed at dubious places. Though this doesn't work 100%

If you are getting lots of popups then your computer may well be infested with Spyware which can cause the problem Shifting to Firefox will help, but it won't fix it if this is your problem. Have a read of the Spyware (sticky) thread for more info. But downloading and adaware and spybot - search and destroy will help if Spyware is causing the problem.

Reflecting on this makes me realise how much more complex computer problems are these days. At one time, if you had a problem you knew what caused it. These days, the problems are just symptoms of something much deeper. Oh, take me back to my twin floppy DOS3.1 laptop. I understood what was happening when I used that!

No offence Gertrude, but in the words of John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious!!!

'specially as I seem to remember you're a Microsoft fanboy and thus only run Incompetent Exploder....
