pop up window problems

Hi I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to cure a problem that has developed on my computer recently.
Whenever I go to a site that uses pop up windows for links the computer freezes. The only way I can get it back on track is to end the task. I have automatic updates enabled so everything should be up to date. I just don't have a clue where to start with this.

First suggestion would be to ditch Internet Explorer for Opera or FIrefox.

What OS are you using ?
When you press control, Alt and delete does it indicate the programme to be running or not responding ?

Running XP but I have found that a program seems to have found it's way onto my machine called internet optimizer which seems to be playing a part in this problem. Problem is it won't let me delete it!

Any suggestions on that one?

Does this help? I've no idea if this site is reliable but it was one of the first pages that google returned.
