Internet connection WINXP

I recently started getting a popup box asking me 'which connection did I want to use' when I clicked on IE6. I managed to disable that, but now, with my b/band connection set as 'default', and 'do not dial a connection' ticked, when I try to open IE or open a thread, my machine is now tries to dial a 56k PCI modem ISP despite being already connected on b/band. It has just happened again when I clicked on 'Preview Post', but not a second time, having clicked on 'Cancel' on the popup dialup box.

Any ideas what has to be done please?

If you no longer use the dialup modem/connection, then why not just delete both in Control Panel?

Frosty - been through that loop and I keep it as a backup.

EDIT:may have cracked it! I found 'Autodial' enabled under Network Preferences - but not by me.....
