My new super dooper high speed internet is... slower?
Just 'upgraded' to BT 2MB Broadband from AOL 512 Broadband but my download speed is now slower (3-15kb/s).
Any ideas what might be causing this?

82% so not too bad, thanks for that!
The slow downloads are torrents, would this be a problem my end or t'other? Tried different sites and different types of files but to no avail.

Forgot to mention don't try to max out your bandwidth in both directions reduce your upload speed to around 14/16 kb/s
I use a port in the 49100 area, and if you are behind a router set up your port forwarding to your computer

If you've used torrents before, you'll know they can be a bit hit and miss. Does AOL support torrent? There are some very clever port blockers out there which will allow good html downloads, but very slow p2p. Another trick is to restrict your upload speed, a fundamental performance factor on downloads

There is a quite good port forward guide here for opening the ports. To check which ports need to be set, look at the screenshot here, find the matching config page on your TorrenTopia, and use that number, and then another 10, if you normally don't have mroe than 10 torrents downloading simultaneously. ie If TorrenTopia has 50102 as its starting port, maybe consider opening 50102 - 50112...
