Downloading a word Doc

I have been sent a word doc that downloads into a series of boxes on the top couple of lines.

Wots wrong? and how do I sort it out.

I doubt if I am because I am using "Word for Windows 95" but I haven't had a problem in the past.

Could it be that the sender is using the dreaded MS Works word processor?
Those fine people at MS seem to have made the output from this software incompatible with any other Word format

And there is your problem. If the file was written using Word97 or higher, W95 may have problems opening it.

I've just tried downloading the converter with no success, asked the sender to save as rich text to see if that helps.

Thanks all, problem solved with your help (and I'm updated to receive word 97 files). RTF sorted it out.
