virus question

Hi all!

have checked the FAQ's...no joy

I think I may have a virus!

Everytime I stsrt windows (XP Pro) it goes into ckdsk mode (on a blue screen) and does a lot of file swapping with files called Indian in the cupboard etc. I have no such files on my computer.

The reg files are loaded from an area of "last known good files"

Eventually windows loads and the virus checker (AVG Free) tells me I have an I worm Trojan and S-Runner trojan and "fixes" the problem!

I have turned off the system resore option in windows.

I have tried to reload my copy of Norton antivirus . But every time it comes up with an error and cannot be installed!

I have tried a load of "fixes" from google and none of them seem to work.

I dont really want to format the hard drive if I can help it.

Any suggestions?

You could get hold of the latest version of stinger from macafee's website and run that, it may remove the problem. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME you sould probably disable the system restore first.
