Lost MS Word document

A student friend has just learned the hard way why it is important to back up MS Word documents! What she has done is to open a new screen in error, wasn’t concentrating and then saved the blank screen over the top of her dissertation. She now has a blank dissertation which represents three weeks work! Is there any way of recovering the document?

A bit of a longshot. Have a look in the directory where the document resided and see if there are any *.tmp files. If so, open them one by one and see if the old document is one of them.

Good luck!

Another longshot: Have a look in tools - options - save menu and see if "always create backup copy" is ticked. I think it is by default, so there is a chance. In which case, the help menu will tell you how to recover the backup (search on "backup").

P.P.

THanks for the suggestions, unfortunately, no *.tmp files containing the lost file were found and the "always create backup copy" was not ticked - but it is now!
