Anyone Know This Film Download Site?
Hi Everybody,
Am being pressed by my elder boy to download films from downloadshield.com. On the face of it, it appears ok but I'm a natural born cynic as far as these things are concerned. Can anyone comment, please.

I read in one of last month's pooter mags that the powers that be are now clamping hard on P2P illegal file sharing. They have a Court Order to force all ISPs to provide details of anybody suspected of partaking.... even those who think that their 'small' downloads wouldn't interest the authorities.

whois downloadshield.com reveals that they are owned by the 'Airon corporation'. Googling that links them to a wide variety of very dubious offers, scams and complaints, so I wouldn't trust them further than I could kick them. Avoid.

Having looked around, it seems that this comes under the heading of - "There's no such thing as a free (or cheap) lunch."
Am I right, therefore, in concluding that there is no such thing as the film equivalent of itunes. I guess the film industry has quite understandably seen to it.

It tends to be the uploaders that get the boot, especially the one's who have large file servers with allkinds on and who leave the system on 24/7. I fear that prosecuting every single person who has downloaded the superman theme tune would take forever, if not be impossible. Not saying I agree with it BTW - just another angle

I think Netflix is the closest thing that I have heard about to the iTunes Music Store.

I think the music and movie industry are barking up the wrong tree by focusing on lawsuits against file sharers. So far they seem to ignoring the CD and DVD blackmarket (which is larger than legitimate music sales in every country except the US and Japan) and they haven't shown much interest in adapting their prehistoric business methods to modern technology. Not that they shouldn't go after people infringing on their copyrights, but they are getting a little carried away with it.
