why do pooters slow down

and can we speed them up?

OLD pooter celeron 333 winds 98
New pooter 3.4 and winds XP
So the old pooter has got all of the games and progs, for picture, word, processing and more.
So now they are both in the network and the old winds 98, appears to be slowing down. Is it analogus to a car that if we remove lots of weight the vehicle may go faster? So casting out unused files programmes will give the oldun a bit of speed?

It is slang - possibly of American origin - for a Computer. This is the device which we endlessly read and post about on this forum!

Your 'pooter' is slowing down cos of all the rubbish odds and ends that windows like to file away in hiding places!.

Get Window Washer and Advanced System Optimiser .. you can do a trial on these two so don't have to pay.

Clean your system out no end!

Cruft

Assuming no spy or malware is causing it...see the sticky at the top of this forum.

Sounds like a bad case of cruft.

Clearing out files you don't need and defragging the drive will help apparent speed, it will also free up space for the windows swap file which can also help.

Making sure only programmes you are acually using / are likley to use are loaded, especially started on boot up, will also help a great deal.

Ok - not adding much, but the opportunity to use the word cruft could not be passed
