Fax Slide Viewer

Fax Slide Viewer
When a disk or media card is inserted into my lap top, a few seconds later a screen appears inviting me to choose various options with the files on this disk or card. One option is "view a slide show of the images using windows picture and fax viewer".
If I now choose this option a nice full screen slide show appears and runs through the images on the disk or media card.
The question is,
Is there any way to open this viewer and use it to view images already stored on th computer hard drive?
thank you

Follow amanoffewwords suggestions above, and as a possible alternative you can simply right click on any picture in the folder where the photos are stored.
Search down through the options and hover the mouse (ie. dont click just yet) where you see "Open with" and this will open a second box. Click on "Windows picture and fax viewer".
That should do it!
