"The sound device is currently in use by another audio application"
Hello all,
Trying to use Yahoo Messenger's voice chat facility. When I try to start a voice chat with my friend at uni, I get a message along the lines of "The sound device is currently in use by another audio application".
I have in the past used MSN Messenger for the same purpose, but nothing else that I can tell is using the mic input, even after a re-boot, yet the message appears.
Any pointers, anyone? (please!)

What operating system are you using? What soundcard do you have? Do you have the sound control panel open at the same time as Yahoo Messenger? You wouldn't by chance have hit the mute button or something similar in the soundcard's options?
I've had similar problems with video conferencing in AIM and MSN Messenger. Usually it was because I had forgot to close another program.

XP Home.
nVidia nforce Audio.
Sound is working ok - I can speak into the mic and the audio comes out of the speakers. Checked all the settings and the sound isnt checked muted anywhere...
I tried rebooting and opened up nothing else other than Yahoo, having made sure all control panel windows etc are closed.. and it's still giving me the same message.
wierd.

Yahoo help
Yahoo Audio Setup Wizard
If that doesn't work, uninstall then reinstall the driver and check and see if there is a new one at the manufacturer's site.
