Limiting internet access
We run a lan at home with 3 pc's spread around the house and 1 in the office running a mix of XP Home and XP Pro. The host machine in the office has a cable internet connection and the other 3 machines get net access through the host with all machines using IE. It has become clear that we need to have more control over access times for our teenage family who are the predominant users of the internet system.
Can anyone point me to a program that will allow me to set access time limits for the 3 machine used by the teens?
Would appreciate any input.

Hi WRL,
I am unaware of a program that will do this (but I would of thought a few of the server OS would allow this) Richard or E - Liam would probably know.
If you bought a router, you can have some control over access times and viewed material and restrict adult content to one PC etc....
You would probably get faster speed on your "client" pcs when connected to the internet as well.
I use a Netgear DG834G which has some faclilities as mentioned above. Someone may be able to suggest a router with better control facilities.
Hope this helps,
F - Wyg

Cheers

What Red Line?,
The one Charles mentioned is very good. To give you a couple more options, take a look at:
Net NannyŽ 5.1
And
Child Control 2004 6.93
Take Care,
Richard

Ho hum.
More attempts to find a technical solution to a parenting problem.
The usual advice is to solve the parenting problem ... not least because the kids will simply ignore any technology you try to impose on them, so you're wasting your time going down the technology route as you'll have to sort the parenting problem in the end anyway.

Thanks for your responses folks. These products seem to be what I need so I will start trialling and see where we go.
To G. the W, yes, I know exactly what you're saying, however the old extremely effective clout round the earhole is now socially unacceptable so it is necessary to blind them with science.

I suggest forgetting being politically correct and do what you know is best for raising your children right.
The best solution which I would recommend, which is even better then "blinding them with science" would be to have their computer's networked, but put then in the family room. That way you can always monitor what they are doing. It is a much better solution then letting them have the comp in their room behind a closed door.
Take Care,
Richard
