Cool

It says : Latest definition file: SE1R16 28.10.2004
Please Note Version SE Build 1.05 is now available! This download is for use with this version only.
Manual Installation: Unzip the archive, replace the existing file and restart Ad-Aware\Ad-Watch.
You can also use the webupdate component implemented in Ad-Aware to install this update.

You can download the zip file and install it manually.

I had the same problem, I had to manually configure the http port, once done it downloaded straight away. I'm using adaware 6 pro.

Still an hung start

Hello spannersatcx,

I forgot to mention I did in fact have the Core as 1.05 having updated to that version shortly after it came out.

However, I did another re-download, in which it uninstalls previous versions (which would have been 1.05 anyway) but I followed through with the uninstall, and the re-install.

Tried the "update" again........... boom......... it opened, one would think from memory, with the progress bar stuck at 5%.

Still stuck with a hung-start!

I will now try an uninstall, away from the download site and then come in clean and see what happens next!

Thanks anyway.

Cheers

Same problem here. Follow the link to Lavasoft and download Adaware again..it offers to remove existing file and replace with downloaded one. This installs new looking Adaware and you can then update the latest ref file. Well it worked for me! interestingly I would find 3 or 4 items to remove after a scan every couple of days, with the latest download and after 2 days I found 61 items...can anyone suggest why?
Regards

roach,

My guess is the latest pattern included a type of spyware that Ad-Aware did not look for before.

That could explain why you had so many hits this time. (The second option would be that when you reinstalled it did a full check of your hard drive, vs just the most likely areas like older versions used to do.)

Take Care,

Richard

I had to uninstall and then download and reinstall to get mine to work.

Richard, I recall you kindly listed an excellent set-up for Ad Aware a short while ago. Would it be too much trouble to ask you to do the same for this version.

Many thanks, in advance.

Brian,

I believe that Liam had listed the setup for Ad-Aware.

The latest free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.05 is set by default to do a full scan of the Hard Drive.

Done as per your suggestion Richard & seems to be working again; thanks for that.
Liam's instructions for configuring Ad-aware are to be found on this thread Brian.
I'm just wondering if they are valid for this new version as well?
Any light Richard or Liam or other Boffin?

Dear Boffin, you're a bluddy marvel!
Tweaked, teased, pulled and prodded it is now running smoothly.

What are those registry keys and registry values it talks about? Do I need to know?

Flaps mate, the keys and values are crucial to the infrastructure of windows on your PC. Adaware will scan the registry for any entries which may have been placed there by miscreants trying to bu**er up your pooter. Otherwise, with respect, leave well alone as editing the registry when you don't know what you are doing (includes me a lot of the time) can result in a very dead windows installation.

An update, for anyone still having problems.

Having failed (through inefficiency) to take my copy of AdAware SE 1.05 home to install on my computer there, I thought last night that I'd have try once more to update the files for my AdAware 6 that's already installed on that machine.

It worked, for the first time since this problem first cropped up. So it may be that the problem has been sorted out at Lavasoft's end now.

I still need to take the new software home to install it, though - downloading it on a dialup take so long.
