Thermal Shutdown

My PC didn't want to play this morning - due to a Thermal Shutdown.

It is inconceivable that it was a 'real' thermal problem. So is there a new bug/virus out there ?

It was detected in BIOS.l

Lost_luggage34,

Check to make sure your Heatsink was mounted properly:

Also tell us about the Thermal Grease you used when you mounted the Heatsink/Fan.

Take Care,

Richard

The thermal grease is a regular offering from the local Maplin store.

The machine is overly heatsinked. I guess it was a one off.

Didn't half put my stride off.

I am still investigating.

Well after much investigation, I can't explain this one.

That is annoying in itself, I always like to work things out and find answers.

Never had the problem before - just very odd that it was a BIOS message. After about half a dozen hard boots the machine came up and has been behaving fine since.

It certainly isn't a heatsink issue. I re-checked that with your suggestions Richard - thanks for that.

The Intel Motherboard Monitor software which comes with the board has not shown any thermal events.

A bit of a mystery.

I'm by no means an expert but this may be worth sharing.

A couple of years ago I bought a brand new Dell PC. After only a couple of weeks we experienced a number of crashes. Intiatially Dell were adamant that it was a software issue, but to cut a long story short, when an engineer finally came out to the pc, he found that a fan within the computer was being obstructed by a mis-routed cable. The PC would stay on just so long and then overheat and shut down..

oncemorealoft,
Thanks for your comments - very valid. But that is certainly not the problem. For sure, misplaced cabling can cause airflow issues, not the factor in this thermal problem.

Just wish there was an explantion - it just makes no sense at all. I've probably missed something very obvious !

Yes - that is the Motherboard I have.

Read the link, but didn't see anything regarding Thermal issues.

Did I miss something ?
