ADSL modem lights
Hi, I've had broadband for a week now after switching from dial-up. There are 2 lights that are ment to be lit on the front of the modem (POWER and ADSL) I think they are. However these are not lit.
There is a help file for what happens, if they flash, only one appears or none. This says check that the USB cable is plugged in correctly etc. I've re-installed the software yet still no lights.
The connection it's self is fine. I get good speeds with no dc's. Although now and again when I start the PC up for the first time of the day and try and connect it does say that it can not establish a connection. Could that be related to the lights?
I could phone my ISP and get a new modem sent out, however i'd rather try and sort the problem out
Any help would be grateful,
Thanks,
Will

You don't mention what operating system, ISP and modem model you're using.
However, the two lights that you normally should have are ADSL and USB, ADSL tells you the connection to the exchange is ok or not, USB tells you the connection to the PC is ok or not.
ADSL will not light up if USB is not lit because the modem driver needs to be active before anything happens.
When you first switch on your computer there will be a delay while the modem establishes a connection with the exchange - on freeserve for instance I noticed it can take up to 45 seconds or thereabouts.
If your connection is ok but the lights are not showing it is possible that your modem is partially broken or, if you are using a USB hub, that it is not getting power to it from the PC (some type of USB equipment need to be connected to the motheroboard direct).
Let us have more info and we'll from there.

Hiya
i use tiscali and there stock modem. The light on the right as you look at the front is the power light. The one on the left is the ADSL light. Both should be on for normal operation.
