Persuade me to sell/keep a new X box
I won this X Box in a radio station competition. I don't usually play games, and if I wanted a DVD player I'd buy a DVD player.
I'm in two minds about whether to hold on to this thing and use it to while away my time as a pilot-seeking-employment, or whether to sell it on ebay and get 80 quid or so for it.
What are the good things about X boxes? If I want a games console, why do I want an X box and not a PS2?

If you are not into games, get your £80 back.
No 1 son has his PS2 and X-Box stacked together - wouldnt dream of letting either go. He reports that they perform in a similar fashion, but has both due to game availability.

The only reason to choose one console system over another is whether one has the games you want or not.
For example, the XBox has Halo, and will have Halo 2. The PS2 had the Grand Theft Auto Series first, and a new sequel will be out this fall on PS2 only, for now. There are more games for the PS2, but that doesn't matter if you like the games available on the XBox better. It all comes down to personal preference, and maybe what your friends have.
I know I would keep it if I won the system. They're great for parties. You can hook up four controllers and duke it out with your friends all night.

WX Man,
I have personally never gone to "The Dark Side of the Force" (Consoles) myself, but it does have a use as a DVD Player. Once you start watching DVDs on a Home Theater, you will want to watch all the old movies you have seen again. (The special features on most DVDs are fun too. Especially delete scenes.)
Take Care,
Richard

Dark side.... LOL
I must admit the one and only thing that is preventing me from ever purchasing an XBOX is the company that makes them.
Too long of a story to go into detail, lets just say, that Unix and the Mac are a lot closer to my heart than any windows OS.
Thanks for the laugh Richard.

Well, we could start an auction going on here and give the equivalent percentage that ebay would get to the PPRuNe fund?!!!
I would keep it to play DVDs on, but I need to buy an adapter for 10-20 quid in order to do so.

Ecce Homo! Loquitur...
You can buy a multi-region DVD player, including free delivery, from Amazon for about 30 quid. If playing DVDs is all you are interested in then sell it and pocket the difference.
