Wireless Router/Switch

Hi all

I am in the market for a Wireless Router/Switch which will serve broadband to my wireless laptop and also to my normal ethernet cable connected desktop..

So the question is, will a Wireless switch like this; Wireless Hub/Switch be able to share the broadband connection to 2 pcs, one connection by Wireless the other by normal ethernet cable..

OS involved will be XP (laptop) and Win2K (Desktop)..

Thanks in advance..

z..

It will work as you describe.

Only restriction is that you'll have to leave the desktop switched on and connected to broadband if you want the laptop to share the same connection over wifi. This assuming you currently have a USB broadband modem. Doesn't apply if your modem has an ethernet interface.

If you want to have wireless/router/hub that also acts as broadband/adsl modem I'd suggest D-Link's
G604T

DSL-G604

Thats what i use,
comes with the card for the laptop as well,
You dont need your main desktop pc to be on to connect to the net on your laptop, or vice-versa,
I found it a little tricky to set up but the instructions come with it so wont be too hard to work out!

I have a similar requirement, but

(a) cable modem, not adsl (but has ethernet connection to desktop) - does it matter?

(b) desktop is a mini footprint type with no room for expansion. Is there a USB wireless gismo? .......but see (c) below

(c) Richard's boxes say 11g, but my laptop is Centrino 11b. Will that g hub work box with a b laptop?

any further advice ?

windy1,

You can use an 802.11b NIC on an 802.11G Router. The only thing is you will get a max connection of 11Mbits connnection where with the proper hardware you could get up to a 108Mbit connection.

Cable or DSL, both work the same.

There are USB NICs if you want to get one.
