Opening a Laptop Battery for replacement
Hi All,
I am looking to replace a rather tired lappy battery. From 2.5 hrs it is now down to 1.25 hrs and most of the time I cannot rely on it for any time that matters.
I can get a replacement for £80 to £100 but this seems an awful lot of money for a two year old lappy. I see that some sites want up to £160? That's over ten per cent of what the computer cost and over fifty per cent of what it's worth now!
If I open the casing, can I match and replace the actual cells at lesser expense. If so where do I go for the replacements.
I suspect that the battery is a Fujitsu Seimans model. The only references on it are as follows;
BTP-44A3
Model; MS2111
Part No 49.0010.001.001.010
LI-ION 14.8v 5880mAh.
Thanks for any help available.

Ella,
I did a quick search of my distributor and the best price I could find was $137.00 so you are doing well at £80.
From what I could tell, the same battery Works with:
Acer Aspire 1400.
Dell Smartstep 200n / Smartstep 250n
Fujitsu Amilo D6800 / Amilo D8800 / Amilo D8820
Hitachi Flora 270W NW8
You could check batteries for all the models above and you might find a better price.
Take Care,
Richard

Try a specialist battery recycler ,they can renew the cells for around half the cost of a new batery. It is not worth trying it yourself as you will almost certainly destroy it ,special equipment is needed to cut the old battery open and solder the new cells in.

Thanks All,
I guess that stumping up the £86 quoted is nearly as good as buying it direct on the ebay auction listed above. (So much for cheap auctions!)
I have a Fujitsu recycler near to me so will ring them and ask if they have any batteries for the models that Richard has kindly listed, otherwise will go back to my source.
The recyclers seem to deal in small batteries only, and the only one that quotes lappy batts is more expensive than a new battery! (So much for recycling)
Seems they have us all by the lappies.......ouch!!
