Why can't I watch bruv's film?
Big brother made a vid of a recent family event and then burned it on to a DVD which he sent to me. He can play it on his DVD player no problem at all but for some reason our player won't recognise it - I can't even get it to play on the PC. Any of you smart people got any clues you can give me as to what the problem might be?

Just to add to what charlie s charlie said, not only are there some media makers that your DVD Player might not like, but there are many DVD Disks now (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW) and that could be the problem too.
Do check here for your model DVD Player:
DVD Player VCD,SVCD,CD-R/W,DVD±R/W Compatibility list
