File sorting problem

I've never had this problem before, but for the last few days, whatever application I'm using, when I select 'File Open', files are listed in ascending size order by default.

It's impossible to find anything without sorting first.

Any ideas how I can change the default sort order to alphabetical?

I'm using Win98SE.

On the open dialog box click the details button. The list of files will now have titles. Click the name title.

Don't know which programme you are using, but normally clicking on 'name' at the top of the list and closing down the prog sets the default order?

That's what I've ben doing. But the sort order won't stay like that. Every time I try to open a file, I have to go through the process again.

BOAC, it's all programs, MS Word, Media player, Irfanview, everything!
