SATA raid question

This is for Richard mostly I guess.

Can I use the SATA connectors on my MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo to hook up my new SATA HDD as NOT part of a RAID array?

The little SATA RAID book that came with the mobo seems to imply that any drive hooked up to the SATA interface must automatically be designated as part of a RAID array. If true this is a bit annoying as I'll have to now also buy a SATA PCI card.

[I know I can RAID the new drive with my old IDE one (both are 120GB) as RAID 0 or RAID 1, but that isn't what I want to do]

Mac,

I replied to your PM before seeing this post. All you need to do is set up each drive on it's own array. That way the SATA RAID Controller is acting as an SATA Controller.

Think of it as having the best of both worlds. Now if it were me, I would put them on a RAID 0 Array and enjoy the boost in performance.

Take Care,

Richard
