STANDBY on laptop

Is it wise to leave a laptop on standby for hours on end instead of switching it off.

Cant see any difference myself - hell of alot quicker to start up when one comes back to it.

Jinkster,

It depends on the OS your notebook is running. It took Microsoft several tries to get it right, and I do not think they have it 100%.

Take Care,

I'm interested in this too. I have a P4 notebook with XP Home. Between uses I leave it on standby with the power adapter plugged in and switched on. Every week or two I unplug the adapter and run the battery down (eg, watch a DVD, or some other power-hungry task) to cycle it.

I've asked some techy people if this is a reasonable/good/bad strategy but haven't had a definitive answer, though have received many opinions!

What is the consensus here?
