Messenger Pop-Ups

Hi guys and girls,

Can anybody tell me how to stop the pop-up messages that have begun to blight my time on the internet? Basically they are either advertising a porn site or a site where you can buy a degree.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is starting to me off now.

Cheers,

SuperOwl

You need to disable the Messenger service. The following instructions vary a bit depending on exactly how you have XP setup, but it should be fairly obvious what to do:

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

That should do it.

TG.

Also lots of help in the 'sticky' at the top of the list of posts. (Random pop ups amongst others) The guys have spent a bit of time putting together the best info on the problem. Has to be worth a read

Regards

Cheers Tall Guy and Lear Doctor,

I followed Tall Guy's advice on how to disable Messenger and thankfully it worked so cheers TG.

I also followed your advice Lear Doctor and have also managed to solve some other stuff so cheers for the pointer. I ought to have seen the Sticky but didn't so I'm glad that you made me aware.

Cheers guys.
