Opening a .avi file

Anyone know how I can play a .avi video file? I've tried it with divx, but get a blank (black) screen.

Tosh,

With Windows Media Player assuming you use Windows. Or Real One player if you don't mind the intrusion.

Cheers

Thanks, AMOFW,

Unfortunately, doesnt work with Real either- the cursor shows progress, but no sound or vision- just a black screen.

You might be missing the appropriate codecs - try running a search in Microsoft's site or even on Google or similar and grab whatever codecs are available - you'll need 'em one day probably....

Did you try it with Windows Media Player? Usually if you don't have the correct codec, WMP will give you an error message saying so and possibly the codec required. You could also make sure you have the latest version from Microsoft's website.

Tosh McCaber,

Where you connected to the Internet when you tried to play the .avi file with WMP?

When connected to the Internet, WMP will automatically search for the proper Codec.

If it does not find it, then a little research will be needed to find out which Codec was used to make the .avi file.

Take Care,

Richard
