Richard - The Oracle!

Richard, you are on a par with Beagle, who regularly posts on the Miitary forum. Your pearls of wisdom make you an expert on computation that many of us take real note of...

I hope you don't sit up until 4am worrying about computer problems!

FJJP,

I enjoy helping.

Richard

P.S. Not The Oracle like in The Matrix. More like:

"A stopped clock is right twice a day."

I fully agree.

There are apparently three such people in ProonLand:

- Richard (AKA, Naples Air Center, Inc.)
- BEagle, in Military, reportedly (I'm more a freightdog myself)
- ORAC, who's personal title I find superb:

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing; think how dangerous a lot can be......

Thanks to the knowledge and patience of these people we learn a lot!

I'm just amazed by the breadth of Richard's knowledge and experience. Most of us have to specialise, even within our subjects, but Richard is immediately there with a well thought out, accurate and helpful answer to everything!

I am delighted that an appreciation thread has started so that we can all express our thanks.

Concur all the previous comments - Richard is always on the ball, helpful and unfailingly good mannered/humoured; BEagle - always worth a read (Is there any aircraft in Aunty Betty's Flying Circus inventory that he hasn't driven?), and Orac - well, I wish we could hardwire him into a help system - much better than any lame-brain Microsoft Help system where it helps to know the answer in order to ask the right question ...

Thanks very much Gentlemen - please don't go away!

I just wonder where he gets the time?

I spend far too much time here (so the wife tells me) and I don't have a business to run like Naples.

Respect.

The thing that makes the likes of Richard and Beags stand out is that they don't make you feel stupid and inadequate. Problems are dealt with in a matter-of-fact way, without the condescending attitude so prevalent in the computer superstores. And they treat you with respect...

I saw a comment on another thread from Richard that XP runs very sweetly on 512M of memory. Having just put in an extra 256 stick to take it up to 448 M before installing XP at Christmas, I dug out another stick from an old machine in the attic yesterday to take it up to 512M.

Wow ! The machine now goes as quickly as an Aberdonian going home on a flag day! I wouldn't have thought that such a relatively small increase in memory would make such a big difference.

So many thanks, Richard, and to all the other prolific posters who add greatly to my knowledge of PCs.

I'll add my heartfelt thanks too. Also got to mention PPRuNe Towers as well. His calm considered manner and wealth of experience in a number of fields is invaluable. His subtle wit and humour cracks me up too.
