On-line Modem drivers
I'm after a driver for a Windows ME PC for the Allied Data Technologies HLF-VMPEU562-C.
I put this into Google and this led me to a site offering a Windows 98SE driver.
Two questions:-
1. How safe is it to get drivers from such sources?
2. Can anyone direct me to a reliable source of a Windows ME compatible driver.
Many thanks in advance for guidance given. The last help I received from this site helped me enormously with cleaning up my computer.

Here's a good site. There are others you can find if you search on "drivers" using Google.
Bear in mind that these kinds of Sites offer a free service based on finance from advertising. Be patient with the pop-ups, therefore.
But I have found them to be safe; just ensure that your anti-virus software database is up to date.

Does seem a bit of an odd one there, was it an import ?
Recommend looking (illuminated magnifer helpful at this point) at the chipset on the card.
Once chipset is established, can often help with knowing what alternative drivers you can get away with. Having said that I have no knowledge of Me.
I'm sure the experts will have other/better suggestions.

Whenever possible, I go right to the source. In this case it would be:
The chipset maker:
Conexant Modem Driver Download
And if that failed then to product maker:
Allied Data Download Page
If that failed, then to a driver website:

I struggled for ages with a Conexant chipset based USB modem someone gave me in both 98SE and XP. Tried driver X and driver Y, hacked the driver files and Lord knows what else.
Eventually got it working in 98SE, but it kept dropping the line.
Binned it and bought a US Robotics - worked first shot.
Now I know why they gave it to me!
Seriously, web forums are littered with startk raving mad people who have tried to get Conexant chipset based softmodems to work with properly with anything.
If at first you don't succeed - give up.....
Eventually got it working in 98SE, but it kept dropping the line.

I agree 100%. Best bet is always a USR Performance Modem. (Do not bother with Winmodems/Modems for Windows, since they are complete junk and their only good use is as a key chain.)
USR has been a leader in Modem Technology and if you are going to be online for a major percentage of your computer usage, then you must have a good modem.

Apart from that, I'd be inclined to get a bluetooth dongle for the laptop, and a bluetooth phone. My SE Z600 has the lot - BT, IR, 3-band, clamshell, and works with no fuss with IR and BT to the iPaq and the desktop.
A second-hand SE T39m (flip, BT, 3-band) is cheap and they work! The T68i is similar but I don't like "keylock" phones.
