Flying N-registered aircraft in Argentina (longer than 45 days)?

Hi everyone,

I have a private pilot license from the US (PPL) and from Argentina (PPA), and I plan to fly an N-registered aircraft from the US to Argentina later this year. I'd like to keep the plane in Argentina for maybe 6 months, but I just found out that there is a 45-day limit (per year) for operating a foreign aircraft in Argentina. They allow you one extension of up to 75 additional days, with the proper paperwork.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get an extension longer than this 45+75 days? Simply leaving the country and returning won't work because the counting begins from the first day you enter the country, and goes for a year. (i.e., a year later your days start over).

Also is anyone here from La Cumbre (SACC) or Cordoba, Argentina?

I would talk to ANAC on the matter.
Every now and then we receive AMHS messages about extending a certain foreign airplane stay, although those may be waiting for the LV reg instead of arriving to ARG with the pasavante reg for permanent basing.

Cheers from TdF.

Why doesn't that surprise me at all?

There's a reason we say that God's everywhere but only serves in Buenos Aires. Imagine the rest of us who live elsewhere

Bring it to Uruguay, maybe SUCA (in front of Buenos Aires). The limit in Uruguay it's 365 days and it starts counting again everytime you fly out of Uruguay, I'm 99% sure of that.

That could work. Do you know if the Colonia Aeroclub has hangar space available?

I'm pretty sure they don't but I can find out tomorrow and let you know.

Colonia it's a good fit, you can have customs & migration service on request (just a call half hour before departure or landing). So you can easily fly to Argentina and back. Also there's THE vessel service between Argentina and Uruguay at Colonia's port for transportation.

What aircraft will you bring? When are you planing to do it?

Thank you for the info. I will be flying a 2008 Columbia 400, and I hope to do it at the end of this year, late December 2017.

I called Colonia's Aeroclub asking for a quotation. They are going to send me it around Saturday, because there will be daily airport charges (bu airport administration) in addition to hangar charges (on their behalf) that they would like to let you know too.

Death and Taxes

Camel; this rule is very common in S. America and has more to do with Taxation of Property; you might be able to get an exception by paying the annual fee that your aircraft would requiere to pay were your aircraft registered in Argentina. It won't be cheap! That and death is what's sure! 😆
