Avianca Brasil Expansion Questions

I am aware that Avianca Colombia will be getting their first 787s in a few years - presumably to replace A330s. I am not as familiar with Avianca Brasil (formerly Ocean Air). Given that Avianca Brasil has been expanding domestically, does anyone know if Avianca Brasil plans to expand beyond South America and will be allocated any of those 787s on order for the Colombian operation? Given the pure size and growth of Brasil I could imagine international expansion - especially with the upcoming World Cup and Olympics.

Will we see any 787s (or A330s) in Avianca Brasil colours? Or will it continue to focus on growing domestically?

Cheers

The 787 and 350 are for Colombian use, And are not replacing the 330, they come in addition. New routes are being opened, and the company is running low on airframes. Furthermore Avianca Brasil is a different company, with a different structure and very little synergy with AVA Colombia...

Latest reports in Brazil say that Avianca Brazil is receiving 5 A330 throughout 2014 (2 A330F and 3 A330 pax).

Deliveries are expected as follows, but changes can occur according to operational and market demands.

- Feb/14 MSN 1492 A330-200
- Mar/14 MSN 1508 A330-200
- Mar/14 MSN 1506 A330-200F
- Jun/14 MSN 1534 A330-200F
- Jul/14 MSN 1540 A330-200

Levraimatt and Lepo,

Thank you for your responses. While I agree there may be not much operational synergy (although I would expect Airbus training and Airbus parts costs could be leveraged for group discounts), it would surprise me if Avianca Brasil would not leverage the very recognizable Avianca brand name on international flights to/from Brasil. If they cannot get the slots or permission to fly to Europe/North America from Brasil, that is one thing. But one would hope they could leverage both the brand and some feed to compete internationally - especially with all of the big sporting events coming up. A recognizable brand like Avianca is a great asset.

Nice to hear they may get some A330s soon.
