Arrow Cessna Caravan down in northern Costa Rica

The following is the first sad news item in this new, great Latin American forum. For more details of the Cessna Caravan crash in Costa Rica please see http://www.airwise.com/stories/2000/08/967374537.html - Let's hope there are survivors. I holidayed in Costa Rican town of La Fortuna in April, 1999 and climbed both Volcan Arenal and Volcan Chato where the Cessna came down. Flight crew two Costa Ricans, eight foreigners, including two Swiss women. Flight originated in San Jose, landed at La Fortuna to leave off a Japanese tourist and was then bound for Tamarindo, a beach resort on the Pacific Coast.

Unfortunately, there have been no survivors from among the 10 people aboard the SANSA operated Cessna Grand Caravan that crashed near La Fortuna, Costa Rica last Saturday. Among the dead were 3 Americans, 1 Canadian, 2 Swiss. The identities of the two other passengers will be given when relatives are informed. The pilots were Karl Acevedo Nevermann and William Bobadilla. May they all rest in peace and condolences to all the families involved.

Unhappy

There is good local coverage of last Saturday's fatal crash of the SANSA operated Cessna Grand Caravan on the slopes of Volcan Arenal, north of La Fortuna, Costa Rica in this week's online edition of the English language Costa Rican newspaper, Tico Times at http://www.ticotimes.net.
