MEX ILS 05R---Help!

Hello guys,

I fly the Airbus a couple of times a month into MEX and I'm Looking for some advice from Mexican pilots of the Airbus that operate out of MEX.
I fly regularly into MEX, and I find that the transition from SMO VOR to the ILS 05R is always an ugly affair: almost always an intercept from above and/or we shoot through the localiser as the published transition is almost an 80 degree intercept.
I find that no matter what I try ,even having the speed back below 150 kts and the gear and flaps down it always looks really bad and feels really rough for the pax.The transition from the 9.2 DME SMO to the final intercept is one of the most quirky intercepts that I can think of on an ILS.
There must be a trick the the locals use to make it smooth! (especially the Mexicana or Interjet A320 pilots....)
Gracias!

Hola! The way we do it at my company (EMB 145) is, once we are established on the SMO 160 radial, we preset the heading bug to 080 degrees. At the 9.2 DME fix we call for VS 1500'fmp to initiate a quick descend and heading mode engagement. That gets us below the G/S and on a nice intercept angle. Speeds for us are probably around in the 135kts to 141kts for Vref at MMMX, with the usual 180kts that aproximacion gives you. That's really it. If you want more help let me know and I'll send you a copy or our 10-2 tailored to our company with the profile.

Cheers...

Lightbulb Try fsmex.com

Hi there,

It´s hard to find mexican pilots around this forums. Specially Mexicana or Interjet Crew members.

Try to contact Pablo Rosas on www.fsmex.com . I´m pretty sure he will be glad to teach you the mexican method for that "chicana" approach. He´s teaching some great IFR stuff on that site.

Don´t forget to share the secret with the rest of the world amigo!

Thanks a lot for the info guys!
The way we do it at my company is pretty similar to yours Cubanade aviacion,
at 9.2 DME we go to VS-1000FPM down to 8800ft but I find that going to heading 080 (wich my company also recommends by the way) just gets you further inside MW (PLaza FAF) and therefore an intercept from above. It always ''works out'' but it's not pretty...
And even by going out of NAV and doing the intercept in HDG, even at slow speed we generally go through the LOC.(maybe it's just on the Airbus because of the slow response of the Auto pilot?)
Thanks again for the info guys!
