Buffalo DC3
Looks like Buffalo Airways DC3 lost an engine on T/O, not a good time to have this happen on a "Three",no injuries or deaths, seems like the crew got it right even though the aircraft is a write of. For those who have not flown any aircraft "pre first/second segment " certification requirments, this is not an unusual result of engine failure just after lift of on some of the older aircraft, in fact most piston twins still in production wont climb under the same conditions.

Sounds like it was the daily 'Sched' as referred to on Ice Pilots.
I wonder if it was Buffalo Joe at the controls. Whoever it was did a good job. |
This was the second flight to YHY, Joe was on the first one. The aircraft was WIR.

'Damn good pilot' praised for DC-3 belly landing in Yellowknife - North - CBC News
Had a similar experience in 1994 in a Servivensa DC-3 in Venezuela. Right engine went bang right after takeoff at around 1,000'AGL. Lots of smoke but no visible flames, pilot make a (very) quick circuit and landed fine. Luckily plane had a light fuel load and under 10 pax. Emergency landing briefing certainly had my full attention though. |
Bravo, losing a donk on TO in a Dak is a really bad place to find yourself in.
