MOVING TO GODS COUNTRY
I am thinking of moving to toronto later on in the year.Seems like i spend half my life there anyway!.I`m a brit, and by the end of the year will have my UK cpl IR, frozen atpl, with 700 hoursTT,with 100 of that twin time.I am particulary interested in the bizz jet side of work.Should i be accepted by Canadian immigration, what sort of qualifications will get me into flyig in Canada.Any hints on salaries, reality of getting a job, contacts etc would be great.
|
First you'll have to convert to Canadian Licence(not too bad considering UK atpl trials-whats a frozen atpl?).once your in YYZ circulate your resame(do it now)are type endorsed on any bizjet as yet??,But you should have no real difficulties with that time, and licence
|
PS,vancouver is really god's country!!!YYZ with 95% of the travelling public just thinks it is!!
all the world does a 'holding 'pattern about YYZ(ask all the airlines??) |
A frozen ATPL i believe is a pass in the theory exams, however the candidate does not yet have enough hours to hold the licence. Therefore the licence is "frozen" until you get the required time.
I too have a question regarding licencing in Canada. Are you able to fly in Canada on a US FAA ATPL or equivilent? Is there much involved converting from a JAR ATPL to a Canadian one? Any help on this would be great, I'm down here in Oz so don't get to hear much about what is going on up there! |
You know, when I saw the title "moving to Gods country" I was sure you ment the EAST COAST. I guess we all have our own version of it.
|
"God" knows it's hard to find a job in Canada! I thought things were good over in the UK for those who had a frozen ATPL.
|
Oh I thought you guys were talking about Australia! Would the last person out of Britain please turn the light's off.
|
ski guru:to convert you'd have to write some exams, maybe not all three,Guys do this by going to a weekend seminar covering the licencing material(95%) pass rate. You'd have to do a 'ride'on a twin(lots about)with the Fed's approved checkpilot from one of the institutions.allin all not too complicated.
Air Canada's hiring for the next few years (225 per year-until the economic bubble bursts)..Due to this there is a gradual move in the National pilot ranks.WestJet are supposed to be Hiring!!,but nothing near the demand that's going down in the 'Excited States' |
To get into Canada without too much hassle, you should arrive in a rusty freighter. Otherwise, you'll have to do it legally, which could take forever.
|
Unfortunately 700 TT will not get you much in Canada or Toronto for that matter-You may wish to consider becoming an instructor at one of the many busy flight schools in TO. That way you're employed, building hours, and learning about the aviation scene here, which is vastly different to the one you're used to.
Hopping into a bizjet with 700 hrs will not happen. Good Luck ------------------ Low, Slow, and Dirty! |
Yo! "inlimbo", gotta say, god's country IS in the east, like, anything east of Winnipeg. http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif

Hey Pigboat,
What's wrong with a rusty freighter? Ain't no room for racist remarks here...don't be an idiot! |
Rusty Freighter??? You ain't talkin bout my Beaver are you???? In DeHavilland we trust!!
|
Yo Rockinbob,
Just commenting on the stupid comment pigboat did...in my opinion uncalled for... Don't you love the sound of the VRROOMMM on the Beaver...I second you...Long Live the Beaver!!! |
Boys! boys! I don't think "pigboat" was making any racist comments at all, I think what the man was trying to say is a comment about the immigration system in this country, the way "line jumpers" are rewarded and the honest ones (ie: the ones doing it thru legal channels ) get the proverbial shaft. Just to say, I didn't see anything racist in his remarks. Take a pill :)
P.S. Yay! I just hit a hundred posts!!! gotta go celebrate... http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif ------------------ F/Os do it with discretion. |

|
Well gee, allright, let's go with anything east of Winnipeg and SOUTH of the 50th. parallel. I've been up there also, know what you mean. :)

Three Camels, bingo. P/R, do you think allowing line jumpers and terrorists into this country, and deporting a Philipina nanny already here legally for taking a second job is an immigration policy? You must work for the Federal Gov't.
|
To the other pigboat
Open outer doors, tubes one and three. |
Uh! pigboat? did our wires get crossed or something??
I thought I was backing YOU up on this! Are you shure you read my posting correctly? My comment was to underline the LACK of policy at immigration, not to P/R it as you put it so eloquently. In no way did I write anything that might be construed as support for the present policy (if there is one). No, I do NOT think allowing line jumpers and terrorists into this country and deporting the nanny is a good policy. Where did you get that idea??? All I did was defend YOUR remarks that were misinterpreted as racist. Read the thread Dude!!! And, no, I do not work for the federal goverment! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/eek.gif  Rollingthunder, you got a firing solution yet? :) ------------------ F/Os do it with discretion. |
"Moving to gods country !!!?"
HAaaaaaaaaa, grass will always look greener on the other side of the fence! |
The grass may always look greener but until
you get unionized it will always be just turf. |
Three Camels, you mistake my meaning . P/R in this case meant positive rate. You got it right.

Ooops, sorry pigboat, guess I got a little sensitive and defensive. Kay, I overreacted a little there. This line jumping thing got me a little steamed. That nanny thing is just one of the examples of our immigration ineptitudes...there are so many more... http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/redface.gif

Three Camels, no sweat man.
|
Customs expects twice the number of rusty freighters off the rain coast in 2000.
Real refugees - no problem. Economic line jumpers - pass. The definition continues to blurrrrrrr. ------------------ check six |
Rollingthunder, did you get the NWL post on your worst flite thread?
|
Negative on that.
|
I used to work for Wings. Started pumping gas and floats in 1962, then when I got my license in 1966, I flew for them, for seven years, with nine months off for Wheeler. Wings was taken over by QB in '66. In '74 or '75 they became Region Air, and got rid of the bush division as well as the DC-3s and the C-46, and operated a flock of 748s and B99s. After ND took over QB, they just kind of petered out. I left in '73 to fly the F-27 for IOC, and just retired on a buy out. They were one hell of a Company tho.
|
In summer 69 I flew with Wings, Harrington Harbour(I think) - LaTabatiere on my way to a mining exploration camp there.
First time in a Beaver, first time on floats, first time r/h seat (non-flying). Great flight, I remember it fondly. The job financed a one-way ticket to Australia. |
Sorry, Rocketboots(can I get a pair) we got considerably off-track on the thread.
Come on over, Toronto only if absolutely necessary. Canada's glad to have another pro, but post to Vancouver as soon as possible or is politically correct. (or the maritimes or the Rockies or the territories or the northeast coast of Quebec).Damn, it's a big country. [This message has been edited by Rollingthunder (edited 12 May 2000).] |
RT, if the beaver was white and orange, it was GYP and I was flying it. If it was white and grey it was EYR and Eddy Williams was flying it. We only had three beavers GYP, EYR and HNM. That summer, HNM was in the bush on contract, so it had to be one of the other two. Eddy lives in Campbell River. Small world. PS ya wanta try for parole judges next?
|
Aaaah! The mighty 748 jet-prop "wisperliner"
Loved that crate. Wonderfull machine to fly. I really miss it. http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif ------------------ F/Os do it with discretion. |
Hey pigboat, in sept-iles, you might know a guy I flew with at CRQ, flew on the Québec Cartier Mining F-27 after that, guy by the name of Chambers? Ring a bell?

pigboat,
I don't remember the livery or the reg.nos.Was around the middle of June 69 - with a fair amount of snow still around. We were a group of 9, built a bonfire on the shore while waiting - cooked beans. Moving us all required three trips,my trip was the last and used up most of the remaining daylight. We were all kids, and pilot was not a big talker.I observed the rivets vibrating madly on the top surface of the floats. The trip up from YUL was QB BAC111 to Sept Isles, then QB twin otter (pilots chain smoked all the way)to Harrington. Pax were deplaned and then had to refuel the Otter via a hand cranked gas pump. Not the business class I'm accustomed to now but excellent memories. |
The grass always looks greener. After 52 years in this dictatorship, I gotta get out. The taxes are exorbitant, our disposible income is the lowest in the G7, democracy is not here, the health care system is pathetic and the system is hell bent on wealth redistribution not wealth creation.
The prime minister (Cretin) said "if you don't like the high taxes then move somewhere else". So I have - flying contracts worldwide and the Canadian now gets none of my income. So - if you want to pay through the nose for very little, come on over! |
Three Camels, yeah I knew Percey real well. We used to have breakfast together often. He er..aah left QCM about three years ago, and tried out for Transat, but fluffed the sim. Last I heard, he was at Air Innuit. RT, I checked my logbook, and I could not have been me. Must have been Eddy. He didn't usually talk too much. I spent the entire month of June based at the ZV seaplane base, with only the occasional trip down the coast with the 185.
|
Well ding darn diggidy! I'll be darned!!!
Small world eh! "pb" Ya! flew with Percival @ Air Creebec. He surprised me at Air Transat, we where both on the same initial course three years ago and yup, last I saw him was at YUL terminal, we where both deadheading and he told me he was with Inuit and enjoying it with them on the mighty 748 (did I say I loved that airplane? oh ya! above...). Well, if you see him around there, tell him Dave says "Hi!", Kay? :) ------------------ F/Os do it with discretion. |
Right On CaptContract! Like you, I couldn't stand the Canadian BS either. Resigned my position at CAIL some 5 years ago as I could see it all coming. My marginal tax rate was 54.6%...before paying GST and all the rest of the service charges.
Now....flying a nice new 777, putting money in the bank...ahhhh...retirement at 54? Nope, there are other things to do in this world. All you have to do is look at the mess in Canadian aviation today...read some of the bulletin boards. I love the country, hate the politics. As they say..Its Gods country and he can have it. Oh yes...did I say...we have all the best Canadian doctors over here...they left too. And...we can get in to see them today and have all the results too. |
