I understand he is still paying all his employees even though there is no flying.

It will be interesting to see what happens to all the flying he did moving cargo.

And of course there is the water bombing side of his business.

Very interesting times in the far north.

What about this earlier quote?

Buffalo Airways could resume commercial flights this week

CBC -- Grounded Buffalo Airways could be back in business this week — almost five weeks after Transport Canada suspended its commercial flying licence.

The company is in the process of submitting its final correction action plan to Transport Canada.

Sol Taboada, a consultant working with Buffalo to help it get its licence back, says he expects the airline to be back up and running within a day or two.

I flew with Joe once. I was at the midnight sun float festival and he had a spare seat in his Norseman.

Half way through the takeoff run he looked down, pulled up the handle for the water rudders and said, "Hold this for me". Had a nice flight.

Presumably it was the handle for the water rudders that he wanted you to hold!!! Those NWT Winters can be awfully long. :}

Transport Canada reinstates Buffalo Airways' Air Operator Certificate - Canada News Centre

Buffalo Joe is back in the air....

A familiar growl will return to the skies over Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territories Wednesday as the iconic Buffalo Airways returns to the air. The cargo and passenger carrier, made famous by the reality TV series Ice Pilots NWT, was grounded six weeks ago by Transport Canada over safety and administrative concerns. Transport Canada restored the company's operating certificate late Tuesday but said the company, owned by "Buffalo Joe" McBryan and his family, will be on a short leash to ensure it maintains the programs and paperwork it rectified during the long suspension. In a news release, TC said it will closely monitor Buffalo to "verify that its corrective action is implemented and sustained." It did not offer details on the shortcomings or their solutions.

Buffalo uses mainly 1940s and 1950s-era DC-3, C-46 and DC-4 piston-powered aircraft to serve far-flung Arctic communities with freight and passenger service. The television show often depicted in-flight emergencies and other problems. It also showed a well-developed feud between the elder McBryan and Transport Canada officials. Reports from Yellowknife said Joe McBryan had agreed to step out of the management role at the carrier but he will continue as a pilot on the DC-3 that offers scheduled service between his home of Hay River and Buffalo's Yellowknife headquarters. During the grounding, passenger service was suspended but Buffalo maintained its cargo flights using chartered aircraft. None of the company's more than 100 employees was laid off during the suspension.
Transport Canada says it has reinstated Buffalo Airways' Air Operator Certificate effective immediately.

For all the concerns about how Joe runs his company he lost one and a half million dollars because he kept paying his employees during the shut down.

I can imagine how popular any TC inspector will be if they go on Joe's property after this last episode.

I am sure they will bend over backwards to co operate and make things difficult for Joe.

Anyhow I personally wish you all the best Joe, by paying your people you are a class act in my opinion.

Chuck Ellsworth.

Congratulations to Buffalo Airways , Joe , family and staff on getting an iconic and locally necessary airline back into the air. Also , nice to see Transport Canada encourage safety , but not smothering entrepreneurship. We hope they can all learn from this , move on , modernize and succeed in a difficult and unforgiving part of the world. Way to go Joe.

good business to pay the staff actually last year I worked for a lady that had a contract pulled, we went from about 30 down to 8. when smoke had cleared needed a few more guys, everybody not laid off had moved on. had to pay for 6 more ppc's. How much did that cost?

to quote a poster here and i paraphrase it"TC couldn't arrange a cluster fornication in a whore house"

Quite a few unfamiliar names in that management line-up.

Also a big surprise that AJ DeCoste has replaced Justin Simle as Chief Pilot. Not seen Series 6 yet so some surprises may be explained there.

on the backs of others

Look everybody this company has been flying old aircraft for alone time. We all know opp's up north are different the planes are old! hats off to the pilots that make them so much money over so many years and be treated so badly, so many show on TV demonstrated that. I just can't understand how thats allowed to happen. I guess thats what happens when you don't have a union to standup for you?

Me neither, used to be on Quest but I can't remember if this channel is still alive and kicking.

Anyone confirm if Series 6 has been on in the UK?

Thanks
