I am trying to find an article about migration of Canada Geese. The article was written in the 60s and possibly published in the RCAF Flight Safety Magazine. It had details of a particular migration over several 600 mile legs and details of flight altitude and weather conditions.
There was mention of a goose strike on a Lockeed Electra. The aircraft was in the cruise at abt 19000 and the passengers had all been fed and watered. The stewardesses had all sat down and no one, fortunately, was in the toilet. At Goose, estimated at 60lb hit (or was hit) by the centre windscreen. It fetched up in the toilet. No one was hurt but it was estimated that the force was 300.000 ft lb. The aircraft might have been luck not to have lost its tail!
Anyone able to trace the article?

There've been others that didn't involve hull loss.
Hollinger Ungava Transport hit a goose with the DC-3 at night on landing at one of the strips along the railroad. It hit the nose on the right side and wound up on the co-pilot's feet. The poor bu&&er was covered in blood and goose sh!t, thought he was gonna die.
Austin hit a snow goose with one of our Cansos up around Rupert's House. It took about three feet of the leading edge all the way back to the main spar. That's pretty impressive when you consider the Canso will only do about 120 kt in a terminal dive.
Used to have a boss that hit a pelican or something on final with the C-46 at some island down in the Caribbean. Killed the co-pilot.

OK, the raw weight of the goose may have been less than 60lb. The 60lb probably included the centre windscreen, the toilet door, and a large part of a !!!!! can <g>.
